In what was a scrappy first half of camogie, Roscommon gave a committed performance to overcome Galway in a close encounter in Athleague on Sunday. From the throw in it was clear Roscommon were prepared to fight for every ball, and although Galway was first to score when Mary Kelly pointed, Sinead Cooney quickly regained parity. Clodagh Glynn pointed again for Galway but it was another 19 minutes before they got on the scoreboard again with another Glynn point, ensuring the sides were all square at the break, 3 points a piece.

The second half was only minutes old when Maeve Healy was forced to make an excellent save, but the resultant 45 taken by Clodagh Glynn evaded the defence and dropped under the cross-bar in to the net, the perfect start for Galway. However Roscommon fought back and when Lizzie Glennon's free was only half blocked, the sliotar ended up in the back of the Galway net. This was a crucial score with the sides now level, again but Roscommon clawed their way to the end to take a narrow victory and put the holders out of the championship.For a disappointed Galway, Clodagh Glynn did well scoring 1-03 , there was also good performances from Therese Manton and Elaine Tannian.
